Last day in Mango Creek
Dana's perspective
We'll very quickly our journey nears it's end, but in this new land for us there is always beautiful exciting things that keep happening. A few days ago in service I was out with an amazing brother Joseph, he has an amazing story of how he took the truth. His dad died when he was only 11, raised by his mother who only spoke Spanish, Joseph learned to speak and read Mayan ketchi, Spanish, english, Belize Kriole. He's very shy and humble. He and one of his brothers studied first, others followed. In the end himself, and 3 sisters came into the truth, 2 who are regular pioneers, and one of those pioneer sisters is a single mom! Beautiful family.
So Joseph and I are having a fun morning in service, joking and laughing. He's on this one call a Mayan house in the "New Site" area. I can see the little kids peeking around at me, there is no room at the door for me. So I broke protocol and began talking to them, that's all they needed, pushing past grandma and Joseph they came to me smiling and giggling. Christa, Jason and Stephen Pop " do you have any books for us to read?" "Yeah" I'm thinking, "I'm gonna give a bunch of kids between 7 and 10 books they'll never read!" So I showed them the truth tract, they declined, said they had it. I hesitantly showed them the brochure listen to God, before I had it out of my folder Christa said " I have that one" she rattled of the title, the first scripture and half the first page! From memory! Ok, I'm convinced take you pick, she had read everything I had with me except the brochure you can be God's friend, which one of her brothers grabbed however she grabbed it back and they immediately found a spot to read together. Wow, I'm trying to set that up with someone to return.
Every brother and sister here has a story, one brother and his two sisters grew up in a remote village, had an interest in religion, but until they found the truth weren't satisfied. However there village was so remote they studied through the mail! The brother who studied with them made them write down their answers send them to him to correct, and then he would give them another assignment. All three are in the truth today.
Ok, a couple of ewwww stories, Carlee and I were levelling the fridge and we found our first scorpion! MacKay got lots of pics, and a chance to use his new machete. And remember how I told you about that B52 Beatle ( flying cockroach) landing on me at our first meeting here! His twin landed on Carlee our last meeting, how fitting. Though this occasion had a little more screaming!
Well we're off shortly, our last full day in Mango creek is going to be jam packed we'll keep you posted.
Ps. MacKay says " Ya man!"
