Ok this post is dedicated to my mother because she said I haven't been writing enough for the blog...so here it goes!
This has been a busy week. We are the host congregation for the Circuit Assembly this weekend. It is being held right here in Independence at the open sided high school auditorium. So we get to bike to the assembly! It's even been advertised on the local TV station!
The DO and his wife are originally from Vancouver, BC but have served in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala amount other places - Todd and Laurie Schleper. The sub-CO and wife are of Mexican descent but from the States and are now serving in Belize in a Low German group that witnesses to the large Mennonite community - Abel and Belinda Narro(?). They are all awesome!
We were able to attend the Pioneer Circuit Meeting today. It's amazing how we all get the same spiritual food! The same talks and demos we had in November in NS. In this circuit there are 695 publishers with 145 regular or special pioneers, that's 21% are pioneers - not counting those who auxiliary pioneer! There are 1159 bible studies in the circuit and the average meeting attendance is 945 (remember only 695 publishers) so lots of studies are attending meetings.
Earlier this week I finally took my first bus. I didn't have a ride out to Bella Vista, a town about 15 minutes away, but I had a study who had texted me the night before hoping I would come out to study with her. I couldn't let her down, so I hopped on the bus and had a great study. She is only 21 years old, but has two little girls and has lost a little baby boy in death. She wants to understand why that happened and what hope there is for him! I'm hoping she might come for part of the assembly too.
So in short, we are keeping busy, adjusting to the heat, and having fun! But we still have our moments (or longer) of homesickness and missing all our friends and family. TTFN!!

Second Impressions...
We've been here about a week and a half now, this time around has been much easier than we when we first came in October. We haven't seen any tarantulas or snakes (thank goodness!) and we have a few more comforts of home - like hot water! It's definitely cooler this time of year, still quite warm through the day but we had some chilly nights - had to break out a sweater and a blanket or two for the bed!! I know, I know! NOTHING like your weather right now, but still! :)
There a lots of other need-greeters here right now - ranging in age from 20 to 50+, married and single, brothers and sisters, long-term and short-term. It's so encouraging to see ones from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances serving Jehovah in this way and helping the local congregation! Last week at the meeting the appointment of one elder (not Dana-yet) and two ministerial servants was announced - the first local brother to be appointed as a MS in this hall! So exciting!
Service has been really good too! I've been given a couple of studies from a sister that's moving and have found a couple more in the territory who used to study and want to resume. The only down side is that most of them are in the outlying villages, so I have to rely on brothers with vehicles to get to them. Cars and gas is really expensive here, but we are considering buying a moped. It's cheaper than a car, easier on gas, and could transport two people. We are making it a matter of prayer and still crunching the numbers! BUT we do have wheels - just of the pedal variety! We bought two used bikes from a sister that is moving back to the States and I got a pretty new purple bike with a basket! So cute! Except my butt is still getting used to the bike - pretty sore! Lol!
So all in all, Belize is treating us pretty good. We miss everyone back home, but we enjoy your comments on the blog, following friends on Instagram, and emails - it helps us feel connected to you all back home!

Public Witnessing
We've forgotten how amazing the ministry was here! We've got lots of RVs and even been able to move some to bible study status, Yay. What's also very cool is that we were able to get permission to set up for public witnessing at a number of spots. One is the brand new bus terminal, definitely the nicest public building in independence. We hope to set up at the high school, other villages and maybe even places like the Hokey Pokey terminal. The response is amazing.
We have a number of need greaters here right now, some are trying to stay long term like us. Tim and Sativa in ASL, from the US. And Ted and Betty from Canada eh, a real hoot my sides hurt from laughing. We'll tell you more about these awesome couples in the days to come, can't wait!
I really need to update you on a few things. I told you about the cute frog I our bathroom, he's little. Little known fact, you don't have to be a big frog to leave behind a big...........spot! Come on, at least it's the bathroom but I had to fold the toilet paper over double because I didn't want to tear the toilet paper. I would have the only frog in Belize living in my sink with irritable bowel syndrome!
Ps. I don't believe I'm gonna be able to lose weight on my own. The friends here make food for us all the time. So I suggested to Carlee we not wash our hands or food, perhaps a parasite or two might help. Love you all, talk to you soon

Our return to Belize!
Dana's perspective
Well we made it, flights delayed, cancelled and other stuff. It is strange to explain,the feelings we are experiencing, we miss everyone already not yet in a home sick kinda way, just now that we have landed it all feels a little more definite. So we are more determined than ever to get busy in the ministry.
Our first Sunday meeting was so packed about 2 dozen brothers had to stand in order to accommodate everyone! They said only at the memorial do they see numbers like that. A lot of new ones and visitors, bible studies and need greaters too. We are pumped. since we left our congregation is now sponsoring a Maya Mopan congregation and we have ASL pre group status, which I didn't even know existed. Much more to tell you about regarding this,but there will be time for that.
The good, the bad and the WHAT! There is indeed a frog that lives in our bathroom sink in the overflow. Seriously, been there a while I guess, comes out in the evening on bug duty. Doesn't just come out to the sink, he goes around the bathroom. Cute at first till you picture a frog cleaning himself with your tooth brush! So we keep anything that goes in our mouth in frog proof containment. He is to cute do get rid of, I just hope in a midnite slumber I don't make a miss step and make frog paste, thats a risk he's willing to take though.
Oh yeah I will tell you about the bat! Several young need greaters came over for a visit, very nice. We leave the door wide open as long as we are on the property so you do run some risk of intruders. Well I will tell you the bats in Belize are bigger than in Canada, Much bigger. Not Condor big, grey squirrel big. So there were about 10 people screaming, swinging blankets, pillows and I'm pretty sure I saw a fork. The whole time MacKay was in the midst of the fray, never stopped working on the computer, said "it's only a bat." I will tell you this, that bat has never been so confused, tell your friends mister bad.

Still in Transit
Today is the never ending day it seems. We were up at 2 am to catch our flight out of Halifax. Everything went smoothly until we got to Toronto. Our next flight to Houston Texas kept getting delayed and we were afraid that we wouldn't be able to catch our connecting flight to Belize. Of course, no one has any clear answers or will rebook your flights until the flight is actually cancelled or you miss your connection. Anyway, we did miss the connection to Belize, so after traipsing all over the airport looking for answers, trying to rebook and get hotel and meal vouchers -we finally ended up at a nice hotel, with TWO rooms and some meal vouchers courtesy of Air Canada. The moral of the story is that United basically sucks! (Pls excuse my language!)
Anyway, we want to see a little bit of Texas so...we're headed to Walmart! Bet we'll see some local wildlife there - People of Walmart here we come!

Grounded
Well, we were supposed to be in Houston, Texas tonight but instead we are still bunking at Mom and Dad's. The storms and extreme cold temps have halted and backlogged the airlines. Our flight was cancelled and we couldn't be rescheduled until early Friday morning. This sucks big-time! I'm just glad we didn't get partway there and then get stuck for days at some random airport eating stale donuts and old coffee while trying to sleep on hard seats or the floor. Trying to be positive, but have never felt the trueness of Proverbs 13:12 so much before - "Expectation postponed makes the heart sick"
So friends, be patient and stay tuned - you'll have to wait a little longer to get some new Belize stories! Also a special thank you to the Waterville congregation for such a wonderful send-off on Saturday - it was a blast!!
